IF IT'S OBAMA VS. MCCAIN

this will be a very interesting race indeed.  Obama is winning Democrat races usually in states that vote Republican in Presidential contests.  McCain is winning Republican races usually in states that vote Democrat in Presidential contests.  And both Obama and McCain are running against their actual record as politicians and human beings.  McCain's central campaign plank in California -- which he bombarded Republicans with via non-stop ropocalls -- was to build a fence across the border of Mexico and put a halt to illegal immigration.  In both statement and deed McCain has vigorously fought against both of these things.  He's said that the people who advocate such things are racists.   McCain campaigns on the idea that everything is about honesty and integrity and a causes bigger than himself.  But in his career and in this campaign McCain has repeatedly shown that he will put those things aside in the interest of his burning vanity and ambition.   There was no honesty or integrity in his dishonest lies about Mitt Romney.  There was no honest or integrity in McCain's behavior during the Keating 5 episode, nor was his passion for McCain-Feingold about "things bigger than himself."  In fact it was all about himself and covering his Keating 5 ass, as the former GOP Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has well said.

Now lets look at Obama.  Obama has premised his life on the most divisive politics possible -- joining a race based Chicago church sympathetic to the racial views of Louis Farrakhan, and voting for a far left political agenda of court imposed law and the economic control of the private sphere which has torn this country apart on value and economic justice lines since the 1960s and before.  And the big enormous gigantic lie in the heart of Obama's gassy rhetoric is his promise to "bring us together."  It's a lie attractive to a know-nothing electorate, ignorant of current events, the political world, economic theory, and just about anything else besides pop culture.

So the election will be interesting, if for no other reason than the bizarre and dramatic disconnect between the candidates, the public and actual reality, if for no other reason.
