more than 2-1 in West Virginia, and out polled Huckabee by 8 points. Romney took a commanding 41% of the vote and McCain a mere 15%. But that was only the first round. In the second round McCain delegates where instructed to vote for Huckabee, and the Huckabee-McCain tag team managed once again to defeat the choice of the mainstream Reagan Republicans in this winner-take-all caucus state. Also worth noting: Ron Paul took 10% of the first round vote and Huckabee's win came only because 3 or 4 out of every 10 Ron Paul delegates voted for Huckabee over Romney in the second round. Even with the full McCain vote Huckabee didn't have enough votes to take the state. Someone please update me on what the Paul strategy was there. Is Huckabee somehow suppose to be a bigger small government conservative or anti-war candidate than Romney? Or do the Paul people just want McCain as commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces? Third possibility: the Paul people are nuts.
UPDATE: Of course, there is always possibility No. 4. Word has it that Huckabee made a deal with the Ron Paul people, trading 3 delegates to the national convention in exchange for the support of the Paul voters in the second round. Read the story here.
