I can't get over the impression that John McCain is the asshat regular Navy ships captain portrayed by James Cagney in the movie classic "Mr. Roberts" who thinks of himself as God and believes the crew needs to shut up and fall in line behind whatever the captain demands to advance his career. That's how McCain treats conservative voters, and that's why conservatives can't reconcile themselves to John McCain. Watch this:
The hat for McCain, of course, is the Presidency. The main difference here is the class and power difference -- McCain was born to Navy privilege and his arrogance comes from his status granting immunity from responsibility in the cruel pecking order of military school, and from his "Do you know who I am?" attitude toward Navy subordinates who survived or were sent to the brig at McCain's whim.
